Kites Kawa

At Kites Trust, our way of working is shaped by our signed kawa – a set of collective commitments
that guide how we show up for ourselves, each other, and the Tāngata Whai Ora we serve. These
principles are not just values; they are non-negotiable practices that protect and nurture our
community and uphold the integrity of our peer-led kaupapa.

We:

Act with honesty and integrity – We own our actions, follow through on
commitments, and learn from our mistakes.

Communicate openly and bravely – We speak honestly, keep issues in the open,
and approach feedback and conflict with calm and care.

Respect and uplift each other’s mana – We celebrate one another, assume
good intent, and never diminish someone’s dignity.

Show kindness and compassion – We practise self-compassion, support each
other, and respond with care when personal challenges arise.

Commit to our own wellbeing – We prioritise hauora, take breaks, and maintain
self-care practices that sustain us.

Work as one team – We paddle the waka together, collaborate with purpose,
and stand in solidarity with shared values.

Practise mutual respect – We honour diverse ways of being, learning, and
communicating, and meet each other in the middle.

Create safe and brave environments – We protect trust, uphold confidentiality,
and foster spaces where everyone feels safe to contribute.

Commit to growth and learning – We seek opportunities to grow, share
knowledge, and support each other’s development.

Actively spark joy and fun – We bring lightness to our mahi, celebrate our wins,
and take pride in the work we do.

These principles are the foundation of our collective culture. We seek kaimahi who live these
commitments. This document will be kept as a record of your acknowledgement of these
principles as part of your work responsibilities during you time at Kites Trust.
